If you are still searching for just the right color palette for your wedding, maybe you should consider the hottest color of 2015. The color experts at Pantone have selected their top 16 colors for 2015 and name Marsala, a “naturally robust and earthy wine red” the color of the year for 2015.  This rich, regal color sets the tone for 2015’s wedding hues. Marsala is rich wine red that’s sophisticated, stylish and versatile.  According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Marsala exudes “confidence and stability. Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.”  This means that wedding trends for 2015 will be more regal and luxurious, but tasteful and sophisticated. Think more Downton Abbey and less The Great Gatsby.

Marsala works great with vintage and rustic weddings, as well as the elegant, formal affairs.  It works wonderfully for as a base color for weddings and can be paired with cool shades of blue and purple, as well as warm tones of orange, coral, yellow and gold.  Pair marsala with dusty blue for a pretty, romantic feel (imagine marsala centerpieces paired with blue velvet linens), while a rose gold and marsala palette is rich and glamorous (think: rose gold foil font on a marsala card stock).

Bonus: Flowers, like dahlias and peonies, grow naturally in this hot hue, and it’s a flattering color for your bridesmaids to wear if you want to make a statement.

So, does this mean that if you’re planning a 2015 wedding you need to suddenly inject Marsala in to your design plans? No! One of the interesting things about something like “The color of the year” is that it’s trading on trends designers are already seeing.

As always, you should choose the colors that work best for you!
